![]() ![]() When starting the computer again with the option key held down, the old startup disk was not presented as an option. Things got weirder when I wanted to boot from my old startup disk again. I immediately turned off TM, but because it had been busy backing up the new Yosemite computer, I had lost all my backups prior to October 17, going all the way back to 2012. Yosemite had apparently apparently turned it on by default, without asking me if I wanted to use TM, as I usually the case with a new computer. To my astonishment it was on, even though I had never turned it on. So I checked in Time Machine Preferences so see if TM was off or on. I noticed that my Time Machine backup disk was loudly spinning. Again everything worked beautifully on my old computer. I installed it on the external HD and tried it. Since that computer will be sold with Yosemite on it, I felt I needed to try out that OS also to see if all my needed applications would work under it also. After I was satisfied I booted again from my old Lion startup disk, and everything was back to normal.Īfter seeing the new 5K iMac at the local Apple store I decided that instead of upgrading my old iMac with a new OS I might want to buy that computer. ![]() ![]() First I installed Mavericks on a spare external HD from which I then booted. Mavericks as well as Yosemite work perfectly fine on my 7 year old warhorse. The bad news leads to a question for the forum. ![]()
